Bonelli’s eagle – Aquila fasciata
Like all eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae. It breeds in southern Europe, Africa both north and south of the Sahara Desert and across the Middle East and South Asia to Indonesia. It is usually a resident breeder. The Bonelli’s eagle is found in hilly or mountainous habitats, with rocky walls or crags and open to wooded land, in arid to semi-moist climate, from sea level to 1500 m.I measures 55–65 cm (22–26 in) in length, with a wingspan of about 150 cm (59 in).
Comment to the pictures from Spain:
In Spain where the pictures were taken 2016 the Bonelli’s eagle are lured to the hide with live pigeons. I didn’t know this until I was in the hide. It made me uncomfortable during the shoot. I disussed this whit the company and they told me that they have tried to make the eagles used to roadkilled rabbit instead. The result with this has been poor. Furtheron they explained that even if there would have been no photographers they would have fed the eagles in this manner because it is the most successful. Their work have made the eagles breed five years in a row with chicks. The species has declined so it is important work. Despite what I or anyoneelse thinks about this I choose to show the pictures anyway because I think the Bonelli’s eagle deserve it. It is an impressive, beautiful bird that is worth to show.
